About NANTO City

Nanto is blessed with an abundance of natural scenery. About 80% of the area is woodland, and the Shogawa river and the Oyabegawa rapids flow right through the city.
In the mountainous region, you can see the Gokayama Gasshozukuri villages (traditional structures with steep, thatched rafter roofs), and enjoy the traditional folksongs performed as they have been from years past.
In the lowland, you can find the towns of Ecchu's Little Kyoto, Johana, with their quaint rows of houses, Fukumitsu, where the famous Japanese hanga (woodblock print) artist Shiko Munakata lived for seven years and Zuisenji temple and the woodcarving shop ” Kibori no Sato” in Inami echoes out into the rich cultural heritage and fascinating history still available.
